Colors used in Japanese meals

Color is an important factor in Japanese meals and they always try to include at least one food or ingredient each with colors such as green, yellow, red, white and black. The black is usually the dark purple egg plant or a cabbage ingredient. When the meal includes these colors and the five methods of cooking (grilling, deep frying, steaming, boiling and served raw), the meal is considered to be balanced.
