Cheese also popular in Japan

Though milk and cheese are not often included in popular menu selections and recipes, it's often used as a snack (same as in America). So for instance, shredded or sliced cheese might be used on crackers or bread. There is also a very popular home made comfort food called white cream stew. Other popular ways to use cheese in Japan, include as a pizza topping or melted down over pasta.

It should be noted that there is a 90% lactose intolerance rate in Japan, so cheese and milk are only enjoyed by some not all.

This could explain why milk and cheese are not a regular part of meal time.
