Here in America, the pecan cinnamon rolls smothered in gooey sugar icing are very popular. Most times, you can only get these at a proper bakery unless you make them in your own home? Is there anything like this available in Japan as a bakery treat? What are some favorite bakery treats from Japan? |

Is there anything like this available in Japan as a bakery treat? What are some favorite bakery treats from Japan? The Japanese love French pastries. However, one Japanese bakery treat is the red bean croissant, a flaky French crescent roll filled with sweet adzuki beans, which, besides being tasty, have been thought by Japanese for centuries to bring good luck. There is a famous bakery in Atlanta, Georgia - Joli Kobe Bakery - which is owned by a Japanese businessman who brought Koke Steaks to the USA, which offers many Japanese pastries for sale. Sometimes the red bean pastries are combined with whipped cream. Is this treat more sweet or is it also tart? I've never had a bakery treat with a bean paste. |

Hi Beverly, The red bean pastries are a unique combination of sweet and tart at the same time. The whipped cream and the puff pastry adds the sweetness but the red bean filling is tart and not sweet at all. A definitely unique taste. In my humble opinion I think it is a brilliant combination. I will tell you that every time I open this thread I want to go eat cinnamon rolls. :-) YUM. |

BTW, if anyone ever makes it to Dallas, there are many places to get really delicious cinnamon rolls. Grandys, which is a fast food restaurant, is known for their cinnamon rolls. Also, Henry's Tavern, which is a restaurant, has a Sunday breakfast buffet and often they include freshly made & iced cinnamon rolls. Le Peep which is a breakfast restaurant has cinnamon rolls on the menu and Benedicts has them as well. Lots of places in Dallas have delicious cinnamon rolls that come out to the table warm with soft icing. Now I'm getting hungry again. :-) |

oh! I would love to try those, for sure. I love any type of sticky buns or iced treat. Here we have the Krispy Kreme as in many places and they always iced the creme filled, chocolate covered donuts. It was so delicious! I wish they still had those as they were the best donuts ever. |
