Grown men being adopted in Japan

A very popular trend is to adopt a fully grown man, usually in his late 20's, a recent college graduate to take over one's business. This person becomes your son and has legal authority over business matters. The reason being that some natural born sons don't live up to their father's expectations, so the father adopts another man as his own to carry on the family business. This is essential as it's considered unacceptable especially in a large corporation that has been family owned for generations to pass the business control outside of the family.

This trend is so widespread that 98% of adoptions in Japan are of grown men.
