What do you mean exactly by "patchy"? If you have ever studied a foreign language, you find that there is only a small number of 100% equivalents for English words. That's the reason for the translations from other services. If you want what you want, you have to describe it in detail.

I thought the word 'Patchy' was on its own. It's definetly in the English dictionary, with the definition "irregular or uneven in quality, texture, etc.; "a patchy essay"; "patchy fog". I tried to get this sort of translation since 'Patch' or 'Patching' has a different sense of meaning from the definition I gave you.

Patchy for quality, patchy for texture, patchy in essay and patchy in fog are all different in the Japanese language.

Patchy (for texture): むらのある (read "mura no aru"; this adjective phrase is commonly written in hiragana only)

Patchiness in kanji (if you want this): 斑 (mura)
