Please can I have some help? I'm wondering about nanori (name reading) of kanji. My name is Matt, which translates to Matto in Japanese. The normal way to spell this would be マット. But, using the nanori of kanji, since 真 has a nanori of まっ, and 刀 has と, could I write my name as 真刀 instead of マット? | ||

It doesn't matter how you write "kimi"... Kimi is a very informal word to boot! だ turns to な: you can't say "だので", you must say "なので" I'll try to correct later because i'm quite busy. | ||

First, Chinese and Japanese characters ARE NOT THE SAME. The Japanese borrowed Chinese characters many, many years ago when the buddhist monks came over. Japanese use many kanji (meaning "CHINESE CHARACTERS") and also TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT syllabries that were derrived from kanji. | ||

I meant to say "NOT ALL are the same". Also, the meanings sometimes are completely different. For example, 手紙 which means "a letter [to someone]" in Japanese, means "toilet paper" in Chinese. In addition, Japanese have many ways to read each kanji; a Chinese pronounciation, and a Japanese one (and sometimes multiples of each). example: 南 can be read みなみ or ナン | ||

There is no difference between one or two r's in Japanese -- unless it is pronounced differently. People who want to know their names/nicknames or other proper nouns should show how they are pronounced. Otherwise, you can't expect much help, except for the most commonly known names. |
