Okay... "I love you" is something not-often said in japan. The proper, literal translation would yeild 愛してる (ai shiteru)... But, like I said, not many people say that. What most people say is 大好き (daisuki), which means "i really like you".

hope that answered your question.

Well, even though you were late on pointing that out, 愛してる (Ai shiteru) is the direct translation (Lit. I am loving you), which could also be (more polite) 愛している (Ai shiteiru) or (even more polite) 愛しています (Ai shiteimasu) or (yet more polite) 愛しておる (Ai shiteoru) or (extremely polite) 愛しております (Ai shiteorimasu), however, 大好き (Dai suki) literally means "I really like you" or, more direct, "You are liked a lot" or something. While it is not a literal and direct translation from english, it is what Japanese-speakers would say where English-speakers would say "I love you."

There are many way's to write Miki.... Your best bet is to just write it in hiragana, to show her you mean bizzneesss, and then ask her to show you HER kanji that her parents gave to her.

Your friend is wrong. It's perfectly fine to say "daisuki" by its lonesome. Only problem with it is, it's very informal. Therefore, you should only usse it with your friends or people of lower status than you in society

Ursula - アースラ
Eternity of Life - 生命の永遠

Kanji symbols are more advanced Japanese symbols which each express a certain meaning, and can have several different pronunciations.

Hiragana is a substitute for kanji, and each hiragana symbol expresses a certain sound. Note that some words are only written in hiragana. Obviously, there is many more kanji than hiragana.

For instance, "destiny" in kanji is:

運命

and its hiragana equivalent is:

うんめい

Hiragana should be used by beginners, as it is much easier to remember the pronunciations.
