I noticed in another post you mentioned the maxim "ichigo ichie" or "one life, one encounter" in english. That happens to be the exact maxim I was looking for, and I was wondering if it would be possible for you to show me a picture of the characters for "ichigo ichie." Accuracy is very important so if you can please try to have the characters mean exactly that Japanese saying.

Thank you so much,

Autumn L.

Dear Autumn,
"Ichigo Ichie" means that you should do your best when you receive a guest (in tea ceremony) because you would never meet him again (I mean most of the encounters are unique). Ichigo means one period (of life), i.e "from your birth to the death in this world". Remember for the Buddhists, the life is indestructible and change only the recipient (theory of reincarnation). Any way, here are the characters of "ichigo ichie" in Japanese: ichigo ichie.
Kind regards,

this isn't how you say it, but i think that is a stupid question. It goes into the bin with "how do you say 'fuck you, man' in japanese?" And other such stupid questions. They say there are no stupid questions, just stupid people who ask questions... but, sometimes i beg to differ...

偶然仏陀に出会えば殺して下さい。

There, i made it look nice and bill-boardy.

Can you show me, in a large enough size that I can print it out to use for embroidery, the character for "ichigo".

I saw an earlier post with a similar question for a longer phrase including "ichigo", but it's too small for me to use. Thanks.

The quote about killing the Buddha is not stupid, it is a famous Zen saying by the tenth-century Chinese Zen master Lin-chi (pronounced: Lin-ji, Japanese pronunciation: Rinzai). It means that you should not let even your devotion to the Buddha stand in the way of enlightenment. The full quote goes on to say the same thing about the Buddhist patriarchs and even your own parents. Do not let emotional or intellectual dependence on anyone stand in the way of your own direct perception of reality. The Chinese characters are "encounter Buddha, kill Buddha":
kill Buddha
