I would appreciate help with the various meanings of the word/name Rin. I have a friend with that name and would like to suprise her with something that shows the character and meaning of her name. Her mother, who is Japanese, never really told her what it meant or why she gave her that name. I've come up rather dry using the various online dictionaries. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

"Rin" isn't commonly used as a name, as far as I know...

But Rin (倫) means companion.

I think it should be rather 鈴 because it is a girl's name. The meaning is "bell".
By the way, I've found an interesting site in Japanese. The site helps Japanese parents to find a name for their kids and there are really a huge number of Japanese names.
