A dictionary of geography and tourism in Japan has been added. It gives not only the definition of Japanese terms from English but allows you to send a query to Japanese search engines without knowing the translation. You can access it from Japanese Picture Gallery

I'm a journalist interested in spending some significant time in northern Japan researching the Northern Territories for some magazine articles and/or a book. I was wondering if anyone could help me with resources / contacts / travel specifics of all shapes and sizes. Websites, academic experts, tourist operations located in northern Hokkaido... anything really. Does anyone know anybody who's ever been to one of those islands north of Hokkaido? How does one even get there?

Thanks in advance,
Dave

I am looking for some translations of basic words for a project for school. I have to imagine that I am traveling to Japan and would need to say basic things like:
Hello
Thank you
Please
where is the airport
how much does this cost.

if any one can give me this translation, i would appreciate it.
