Whenever I am sad, I put on my sad song playlist on Spotify and go on Skype to text my friends. This really helps listening to music and having friends to talk with. I would like to know how Japanese people deal with mild depression or sadness. |

Japanese people tend to shy away from overt displays of emotion, and rarely smile or frown with their mouths. The Japanese culture tends to emphasize conformity, humbleness and emotional suppression, traits that are thought to promote better relationships, but that hide their feelings, especially of sadness. I would guess that the Japanese deal with sadness but hiding it, suppressing it, pushing it down. That in itself is sad. Don't you think? |

That's really sad how they cannot express their emotions openly. Hopefully they have quiet activities that allow these emotions to be channeled in a healthy way. One of the reasons I was wondering about the sadness issue in Japan is how I have heard of so many suicides there. And, even a forest where many suicides took place. Ideally the Japanese government would make mental health a priority and provide some type of state subsidized treatment for those with unresolved feelings of sadness or depression. |
